Alternate also refers to alter, short for alternate personality. I take a sketchbook with me wherever I go. The tiny works on white paper were created spontaneously in public spaces. They are psychological snapshots of my state of being at the time, often portraits of alters that are present, or partially present (a process sometimes referred to as blending). The works on black paper were drawn some time later in direct response to the former. They are symbolic and/or narrative explorations of the traumatic incidents—mainly illicit medical experimentation sessions—that led to the formation of the alter states.
